Chief Technology Officer

The Opportunity

As our Chief Technology Officer you will define and execute a strategy to evolve the technology that underpins the scaling of the Featurespace platform and products. You will bring a customer-centric culture and desire to build a world class technology environment. You will be responsible for delivering to an ambitious roadmap, whilst maintaining Featurespace’s high service levels; bringing a depth of experience in leading technology strategy and teams within high availability and mission critical environments. This is a client facing role, and therefore require you to understand what our customers want and what it takes to build and scale exceptional customer service.

The technology and engineering team is located in the UK with plans to expand to the US. The team is responsible for the architecture, development, quality, and operations of two different product offerings and code bases.

The priority for the Technology team is to reliably deliver features against an ambitious roadmap to enable Featurespace to make the world a safer place to transact. In order to achieve this the technology team needs to collaborate closely with Product Management in order to deliver a roadmap that aligns to the market and enables clients to make the transition from legacy to future offerings.

Our Engineering and Technology teams are mainly based across our Cambridge and London office’s, so you will ideally be comfortable coming to both regularly. If you’re interested in the role but require more flexibility, please speak to us! 

Day to Day

  • Lead and develop the technology roadmap and set the strategic vision for technology architecture, delivery, and operations (SRE)
  • Apply deep subject matter expertise particularly in high availability and machine learning technology environments
  • Lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of a Featurespace system by continuously improving operational aspects of the platform (installs, upgrades, migrations) as well as security (patching, hardening)
  • Drive revenue by creating products that clients find deep business value in
  • Strive for a class leading suite of products, creating feedback loops with customers and internal stakeholders to drive company deliverables and performance
  • Ensure that projects are well defined, identify key risks and monitor the status of on-going projects, ensuring that key objectives and commitments are met
  • Continuously develop and refine processes and procedures improving engineering productivity and capability
  • Plan and manage the Technology budget, approving resource estimates and proposals
  • Prioritise projects, assess resource requirements, manage technology delivery, adhere to timeline commitments with flawless execution
  • Deliver on the job coaching to mentor other leaders within the CTO organisation
  • Build and maintain a positive and healthy team working environment

Technology Strategy

  • Provide current and future direction for Featurespace’s solution capabilities by identifying and enabling new products, adopting an entrepreneurial approach to continued product innovation and development
  • Own the feature road map both strategically and tactically and communicate the strategy and vision effectively across the business, with a keen understanding of how to motivate key stakeholders around product delivery
  • Establish a collaborative and effective partnership with the product management organisation
  • Provide input to business and product strategy as part of company leadership team collaboration
  • Align and manage all technical resources to the business and financial plans, including full cost budget responsibility
  • Foster and refine an “agile” culture and deliver continuous improvement

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Ensure effective interaction and communication between the technology, operations and product teams
  • Engage in all internal and external discussions that will be impacted by the product development lifecycle (advising from technological, commercial, and operations perspectives)
  • Act as a problem solver – be the “glue” that pulls the right teams together working closely with engineering to deliver the product vision
  • Work with the CPO to ensure the technology roadmap is clear, deliverable and balances meeting consumer needs and delivering commercial opportunities with excellent and consistent service delivery
  • Work with the Global Head of Professional Services and Support to develop the “operating model” (back-end systems and operational processes that support service excellence) and define the interface with front-end systems
  • Deliver projects on time, to cost and to an agreed spec, including coordination across teams and functions to make sure business needs are met and customer value is delivered

Commercial support

  • Support new sales and cross-sell/up-sell opportunities with the commercial team
  • Proactively identify opportunities for revenue expansion based on lessons learned and field feedback

People Management

  • Be a natural and inspirational leader, visible, supportive and someone who rolls up their sleeves and leads by example
  • Recruiting, coaching, and developing the team – being someone that your teams can learn from
  • Ability to optimise performance of all technology team members and play a key role in enabling collaboration and alignment across all teams (product, business development and operations)
  • Recruit a diverse technology team and foster a balanced employee base
  • Inspire and retain a world class team through clear leadership and communication, with programs in place that enable the development and retention of your teams

About you

Must haves: 

  • Be an experienced industry technologist with a proven background in leading product engineering, technical delivery and the relevant support teams
  • You will have a combination of technical excellence and leadership skills that will enable you to confidently lead a multi-discipline technology team
  • Extensive Software Engineering and IT Experience
  • Ability to communicate and influence over different teams within the business
  • Exceptional project management and organisational skills
  • Comfortable managing international teams
  • Strong vision and ability to execute strategy
  • Demonstrable experience in developing future leaders from within an organisation
