Cloud Architect

The Opportunity

As a Cloud Architect at Featurespace, you will take a lead role in designing and developing cloud-native systems and services. You will innovate novel solutions to complex problems while implementing best practices. You will take a holistic view and communicate widely in the business to ensure that the overall best solution to problems can be found and shared widely. You will collaborate closely with the cloud operations team, engineering, external vendors, and customers.

You will also have significant ownership of areas within cloud operations, perform the role of mentor for other team members, and if appropriate, line management responsibility. You will take a leadership position in the team, contributing to direction and strategy.

This role can be based in our head office in Cambridge, alongside the rest of our Site Reliability team, or in our London office with flexible working options, or can be based remotely across the UK.

Day to Day

  • Architecting best-practice cloud solutions to meet our business needs
  • Continually be looking for new ways to improve our technology and processes to increase quality, decrease costs and improve time-to-market
  • Working with engineering/data science to drive and develop new and improved capabilities
  • Sharing knowledge through mentorship
  • Leading (and if appropriate, managing) projects and people

About you

We are primarily looking to appoint a talented candidate with a can-do attitude and desire to learn new skills and technologies. The ideal candidate will have extensive breadth and/or depth in the following list, but all are not essential:

  • Developing cloud-native applications (Preferably with Kubernetes and/or AWS)
  • Containerisation
  • Service meshes
  • Architectural design
  • Infrastructure as code
  • Linux, shell-scripting and command-line tools
  • Programming in one or more high-level programming languages (E.g. Python)
  • Networking (E.g. DNS, routing, firewalls)
  • Source-control management (E.g. Git)
  • CI/CD and GitOps
  • Object orientated programming and design
  • Writing technical documentation
  • Developing processes and procedures
  • Securing applications, services and data (E.g. authentication, authorisation, encryption and TLS)
  • Experience with any of: Terraform, Helm, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Prometheus, Grafana or HashiCorp Vault
  • Standards (E.g. PCI-DSS, SOC2 or ISO27001:2013)
  • Bachelors, Masters, or higher qualification in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Line management or team/project/technical lead experience is a plus but not essential
