Head of IT

The Opportunity

Featurespace is looking for an experienced and dedicated Head of IT to join our growing IT team based out of our Cambridge office.

Featurespace is a rapidly growing software business, with a substantial development team and several other technical groups.

Our internal IT systems range from development and data science environments to those required to operate our business.  You’ll be overseeing substantial internal systems, SaaS productivity tools as well ensuring Featurespace utilise public cloud IaaS effectively, so strategy and execution are very important.

You’ll work closely with the Director of Security to ensure PCI-DSS and SOC 2 compliance are maintained.

Day to Day

  • Managing people, projects, and technology, mentoring and career development for staff, ultimately responsible for tasks assigned to the IT team
  • Drive clarity of responsibility and process, planning and implementing the internal IT systems needed to support our business.
  • Manage budget, develop IT strategy and policies, and ensure adequate redundancies, failover and disaster recovery are in place for critical systems
  • Primary responsibility for all user equipment, networking, internal servers, and management of both private and IT public cloud systems
  • Drive technology choices and adoption across the team, and to the business, by anticipating demand for future capabilities
  • Responsibility for the smooth running of the team, including prioritising and monitoring workflows, with utmost focus on delivering a high-quality service to Featurespace
  • Manage escalations and conducting root-cause analysis sessions with the relevant stakeholders after major incident
  • Ensure that quality documentation is created and maintained for users and the IT team
  • Ensure requests and issues are logged, tracked appropriately in our ticket management system
  • Implement accurate and uniform measures to analyse performance and trends across IT systems and services
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency of the IT function including cost, time, and overall user experience
  • Develop and maintain third party and partner relationships
  • Recruit and train IT team members as required

About you

Must haves:

  • Significant experience in leading an IT systems and services team within a dynamic and fast-growing technology environment
  • Track record of driving change and developing teams, systems, and processes
  • Practical experience of project management methodologies, for example agile and waterfall
  • Ability to communicate well, adapting fluidly to different audiences – ranging from highly technical personnel to non-technical business owners
  • Must enjoy working in a team of like-minded and intelligent people to solve complex problems
  • Ability to adapt and stretch capabilities and skills to meet the business needs of a fast-growing technology firm
  • A good understanding of at least two of the following core areas, Security, (Cloud based technology – SaaS and IaaS), Enterprise software (CRM, Marketing automation, Productivity suites), Infrastructure services (Networking, Virtualization, storage) and or technology underpinning CI/CD process
  • Experience applying automation and cloud technology to drive increased efficiency and reduced cost
  • Practical knowledge of the following GDPR, PCI-DSS, SOC 2 and or ISO27001:x


Great to haves:

  • Knowledge of Linux, networking, security, scripting, and command line tools
  • Experience in supplier management, including initial assessment and measuring ongoing performance
  • Experience migrating on premise services to cloud based equivalent or IaaS services, including cost modelling
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business / Computer Science preferred) or equivalent experience
