Implementation Team Lead

The Opportunity

An Implementation Team Lead is a senior member of the Implementation team, responsible for working with internal/external stakeholders to configure and deliver our award-winning ARIC platform, as well as supporting, mentoring and training more junior colleagues.  

The role requires strong communication, team development, and leadership skills combined with excellent customer facing abilities to ensure our customers have an outstanding implementation experience. A positive can-do attitude and focus on customer service are non-negotiables. 

You’ll have strong technical abilities as well as excellent time-management skills. You will need to quickly gain a deep understanding of the operational complexities of our software and be able to explain the details to internal and external audiences with a range of technical backgrounds. Candidates must have a demonstrable track record of success in customer technical systems integration projects. 

You are responsible for the welfare and support of your team members to enable them to do excellent work. It is as much about creating a happy, healthy, world-class Implementation team as it is about doing the customer implementations themselves. Team Leads are encouraged to be creative, have fun, and put their own stamp on their team, creating a well-structured, proactive and responsive implementation organisation in the process.  

The role is approximately 70% working on customer projects and 30% managing your team.  

Day to Day

  • Handling the end-to-end deployment and configuration of our award-winning ARIC platform, on-premise or hosted in the cloud
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting issues throughout the technology stack
  • Line managing a team of Engineers within the wider Implementation department, including performance factors, mentoring, training, and helping to schedule project teams
  • Working closely with the Head of Implementation to continuously improve the Implementation function in Featurespace, identifying and resolving issues, process bottlenecks, tooling requirements, training / knowledge gaps and documentation improvements
  • Specific focus on welfare and support of individual team members: encouraging good work-life balance, managing stress and health, team social activities (a budget is available) and general fun! 
  • Supporting customers and colleagues throughout the lifecycle of a customer deployment, from initial engagement to post-live support and maintenance
  • Assisting with designing and documenting suitable customer solutions using deep understanding of a customer’s core business problem
  • Determining the best way to deploy and configure the ARIC platform to meet customer needs, identifying custom and repeatable changes that this would produce
  • Encouraging good development practises and code quality, leading by example in areas such as test-driven development, good quality documentation and test automation
  • Reviewing the test coverage of customer projects to ensure the quality of code delivered to customers
  • Working closely with development, data science and QA staff to ensure new features meet our customers’ needs and expectations
  • Occasionally travelling on-site to a customer’s environment – domestic and international

About you

Must haves:

  • Strong academic background in a relevant discipline, e.g. Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.
  • Experience line managing a team of 4 or more engineers 
  • Experience in an Ops/Integration role in the tech industry
  • Experience with delivering production-quality code in a Linux environment and/or Bash scripting
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of different audiences – from highly technical to non-technical business owners
  • Two or more of the following: 
    • Experience of working with distributed systems (e.g. Apache Zookeeper, Apache Kafka)
    • Experience with database architecture and scripting (preferably MongoDB)
    • Experience with source control (e.g. Gitlab). and CI (e.g. TeamCity/Jenkins 
    • Experience with cloud-based hosting environments (e.g. AWS)

 

Great to haves:

  • Experience writing production-quality code (Python or Java preferred)
  • Experience with applying DevOps principles
  • Experience with working with Big Data/Data Analytics technologies
  • Experience in technical consultancy
