IT Infrastructure Manager

The Opportunity

As our IT Infrastructure Manager you will help us achieve our goals and deliver success on behalf of our customers by leading a team of System Administrators who design, implement, and maintain enterprise grade IT systems (services, server, storage, and network) which underpin the services used by Engineering, Data Science, and other functions within Featurespace. You will be actively involved in the continuous improvement of Featurespace’s core infrastructure and services, and lead the team in designing IT infrastructure solutions to meet Featurespace’s business needs.

This is a hybrid role based in our Cambridge office, so you will ideally be comfortable coming into the office at least twice a week. If you’re interested in the role but require more flexibility, please speak to us! 

Day to Day

  • Leading the team to successfully deliver on the IT infrastructure strategy, structuring short and long-term work for the team
  • Ensuring all systems are maintained, monitored and alerts are raised and sent to the appropriate team members
  • Collaborate with colleagues to automate platform support, processes, standards, and tools
  • Writing and maintaining code for automating the creation of scalable/resilient systems/infrastructure/platform services
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining server, storage, network, and security infrastructure
  • Developing, implementing, and testing data backup and recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
  • Writing and maintaining clear, concise documentation and operational standards including service and infrastructure diagrams
  • Providing a high standard of team leadership by effectively coaching, mentoring, and goal setting
  • Ensuring that teams are up to capacity to meet business requirements
  • Leading the resolution of major incidents and playing a key role in problem and change management
  • Ensuring all processes and controls that fall within your area of responsibility are operating effectively and are correctly evidenced as working
  • Ensuring global standards and best practices are adhered for systems
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex issues production environments

About you

Must haves:

  • Experience with Linux, shell scripts and command-line tools
  • Knowledge of infrastructure virtualisation such as Hyper-V or VMware
  • Experience working with and in highly secured technical environments
  • Understanding of immutable infrastructure and infrastructure as code concepts
  • Prior experience using automation tools (Ansible, Puppet or Chef)
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and organisations

Great to haves:

  • Experience maintaining build system, source code management and artefact management services such as TeamCity and GitLab
  • Experience implementing and maintaining OpenStack
  • Experience running and maintaining on-premise data centres
  • Knowledge of Docker containers and related orchestration technologies
  • Knowledge of the various services and capabilities of cloud computing platforms (AWS and Azure)
  • Experience creating and setting budgets
  • ITIL qualification (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) or equivalent IT Service Management certification or experience
  • Practical knowledge of project management methodologies (Waterfall and Agile)
  • Experience working in an IT environment that adheres to one of the following standards (PCI-DSS, ISO27001)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business / Computer Science preferred) or equivalent experience
