Java Engineer

The Opportunity

In your role as Java Engineer, you will help us achieve our goals and deliver success on behalf of our customers by developing new features and tools to make it easier for our Delivery teams to deliver ARIC to our customers. 

This is a hybrid role based in our Cambridge office, so you will ideally be comfortable coming into the office at least 2 – 3 times a week. If you’re interested in the role but require more flexibility, please speak to us! 

Day to Day

We are an enabling team to ensure that ARIC is as straightforward as possible to deliver to our customers, reducing the time and expense of delivering full value in a straightforward manner. 

  • Specify, design and deliver new functionality to make deploying and maintaining ARIC as straightforward as possible e.g. through improving configuration handling and providing UIs to support post-installation configuration
  • Work with delivery teams to identify and address bottlenecks and areas that could be improved in delivering ARIC to our customers
  • Work with other engineering teams to support them in making new ARIC features as “deliverable” as possible
  • Deliver new features: from specification, through development, QA and into final deployment
  • Have an awareness of how your work fits in with the team’s area of responsibility and goals​
  • Build defined features, investigating and fixing bugs, without supervision but with occasional support
  • Perform code reviews
  • Communicate progress regularly whilst identifying any blocking issues​ and escalating where required
  • Maintain and build good knowledge of the team’s area of responsibility​
  • Contribute to and work on cross-functional features and bugs
  • Provide input into future technology development

About you

Must haves: 

  • Experience with at least one programming language (e.g. Java, Python, Ruby), Java preferred
  • Experience of working on Linux systems
  • Comfortable working with large codebases and using source control
  • Ability to manage and prioritise your own workload
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to meet the goals of Featurespace as a company
  • Attention to detail, excellence, and quality, demonstrating the diligence needed to deliver well-tested, high-quality code

Great to haves:

  • Experience with Java application development
  • Experience with API specification and development
  • Deployment and management of distributed applications
  • Containerised deployments and technology (e.g. Docker, k8s)
  • CI/CD systems (e.g. TeamCity, GitLab).
