Senior Platform Engineer

The Opportunity

In your role as Senior Platform Engineer, you will help us achieve our goals and deliver success on behalf of our customers by: 

  • Designing and implementing new features and enhancements for continuous improvement of our cloud-based product, ARIC Risk Hub; as well as designing and implementing a scalable, highly available and secure cloud-native SaaS solution

This role would suit someone with a background spanning Cloud Engineering, Software Development and DevOps. 

As a Senior Platform Engineer at Featurespace you will participate in designing, developing, deploying and supporting new features for our SaaS solution. You will work closely with SREs and Product managers to identity and prioritise up-coming features to add to our SaaS solution. You will work with cloud, networking, storage, compute, security, containerisation, orchestration, disaster recovery, the ARIC Risk Hub application and many other areas as needed.

This is a hybrid role based in our Cambridge or London office, so you will ideally be comfortable coming into the office at least twice a week. If you’re interested in the role but require more flexibility, please speak to us!

Day to Day

  • Design, develop, deploy, maintain, monitor and upgrade production deployments of ARIC Risk Hub SaaS 
  • Build software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications
  • Continually evaluate and improve our technology and processes to increase quality, decrease costs and improve time-to-market
  • Set coding & engineering standards focussed on AWS Cloud and Infrastructure as Code
  • Architecture improvements on existing platform and development of our cloud native solution
  • Support the rapid delivery of prototypes and the creation of scalable products
  • Develop and document internal processes

About you

We are primarily looking for a talented individual with a can-do attitude and desire to learn new skills and technologies. You will have extensive breadth and/or depth in the following list, but all are not essential. 

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven hands-on experience with deploying complex architectures using AWS services such as EC2, VPC, IAM, S3 and EKS
  • Good understanding/experience of cloud design practices around load balancing, auto-scaling, high availability, performance and disaster recovery
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code practices using Terraform and/or CloudFormation
  • Experience of Automation/Configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef & Puppet
    • Experience with setting up CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience developing in high level programming languages (preferably Python)
  • Experience of the Systems Development Life Cycle (source control, testing, code review, etc)
  • Experience building and deploying Docker containers on Kubernetes using Helm
  • Basic networking knowledge and debugging skills
  • Experience of Agile/Scrum methodology
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex issues
