Software Engineer - Machine Learning

The Opportunity

Featurespace are looking for passionate and enthusiastic Software Engineers to join our core Machine Learning team at Featurespace, to work on our industry-leading fraud fighting technology, alongside our existing team of innovators and experts.

We currently have multiple roles open for Software Engineers at different levels of seniority. At the core, we are looking for individuals who can combine knowledge of machine learning principals with experience of the full software development life cycle needed to take an initial user story and produce a robust, delivered product. 

As a Machine Learning Software Developer, you will help us achieve our goals and deliver success on behalf of our customers by: 

  • Implementing the data processing tools and machine learning components used by our Data Science team to deliver high-performance machine learning models in a timely manner. 
  • Optimising and scaling offline steps required to build models for customers with increasingly large datasets. 
  • Implementing new features within the ARIC platform that improves the analytic performance of fraud detection models. 

For this role we are considering candidates remotely across the UK, but with a preference for those who would be willing and able to commute to our Cambridge office on occasion.

Day to Day

Core responsibilities of all members of the team, include: 

  • Working with data scientists to develop internal tools for model iteration and data preparation 
  • Engineering optimized and maintainable high-throughput data processing software 
  • Championing software engineering process and process improvements 

For more senior members of the team will have additional responsibilities such as:  

  • Sharing expertise with colleagues and others; offering mentoring and guidance 
  • Coordinating work across multiple teams; writing tech specs and identifying risks before development 
  • When needed, taking on additional “tech lead” responsibilities for driving initiatives to completion

About you

We are looking for the following:

  • Experience designing and developing scalable applications in Java, Python or a similar language 
  • Knowledge of training and deploying machine learning algorithms 
  • Experience with the full SDLC, including source control, testing, code review and build pipelines 
  • Experience with working in a Linux environment 

 

It would also be great if you have:

  • Knowledge of parallel and distributed computing 
  • Knowledge of database architectures and data layouts for efficient processing 
  • Experience with performance tuning and profiling 
  • Proven ability to design information rich tools in a user-friendly way 
  • Experience with Deep Learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, or MXNet
