Technical Author and Knowledge Manager

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Technical Author and Knowledge Manager to join the Featurespace Technical Communications team within Engineering, to be based in our Cambridge office. You will work closely with the engineering, commercial, delivery and marketing teams to understand their needs and the needs of our customers, and to develop a broad understanding of our products and how they are used. You will use that knowledge to design and implement knowledge management tools and frameworks, and to create and curate technical content

Being a Technical Author and Knowledge Manager, you will have responsibility for:

  • Designing and maintaining a knowledge management infrastructure to organise our technical documentation content and make it accessible and searchable for internal audiences, delivery partners and customers.
  • Creating, curating, and maintaining documentation content that enables our customers and partners to configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot ARIC systems, and that enables engineers, data scientists, and other members of the company to understand the ARIC platform and do their jobs more effectively
  • Helping to build processes and frameworks to ensure our documentation content remains accurate, up-to-date, useful, and findable

Day to Day

  • Document technical knowledge, processes, and tools used internally and by our delivery partners to design, implement, deploy, and test ARIC systems for customers
  • Create customer-facing and internal content for a range of audiences, from end-user guidance to detailed technical documentation
  • Update and curate existing content, ensuring that our customer-facing documents and inline documentation are up to date, accurate, and reflect the latest product functionality
  • Create a taxonomy to classify and organise our existing knowledge and content, and use it to ensure new and existing content can be easily found and accessed by users
  • Identify gaps where knowledge is not documented or captured and help to fill those gaps
  • Manage the quality of existing documentation and content created by other teams in the business by creating and implementing processes and standards for reviewing content
  • Migrate our existing documentation to a new content format, or find appropriate conversion tools – work with colleagues in Engineering to build or adapt tools if no off-the-shelf options are available
  • Help to build company-wide documentation and knowledge management standards and practices and foster their use

About you

Must haves:

  • Experienced technical author, with a proven track record of writing for audiences with a range of technical skills and backgrounds
  • Demonstrable experience in knowledge management, particularly in categorising and organising technical content
  • Understanding of knowledge management best practices and their application to technical documentation content
  • Excellent command of written English, able to write in a clear and engaging way without sacrificing technical accuracy
  • Able to evaluate documentation written by colleagues from across the business and provide clear and helpful feedback on content, structure, clarity, style, and grammar
  • Demonstrable organisational and interpersonal skills

 

Great to haves:

  • Experience implementing knowledge management solutions within an agile technology or engineering organisation would be ideal, but knowledge of general knowledge management principles and the skills to apply this in a flexible way to achieve organisational goals is more important
  • Experience with knowledge management, content management, or document management software is desirable, as is experience with related technologies such as enterprise search – experience with technical content authoring software such as MadCap Flare or Adobe RoboHelp could also be useful
  • Basic Linux skills are desirable, but ability and desire to learn are more essential

  • Passion for knowledge management and knowledge sharing, and an understanding of best practice in these areas

  • Ability to generalise, learning from specific examples to develop a more general understanding of underlying concepts
  • Self-starter and able to work from own initiative with sound judgement and clear decision-making attributes
  • Attention to detail, particularly when it comes to grammar, syntax, and writing style
  • Flexible and pragmatic approach
  • A passion to work with one of the fastest growing fraud prevention technologies in the world

 

And most importantly, a small-company attitude: willingness to adapt to a variable role and a great can-do attitude.
